Summer thyme (Thymus vulgaris), often called French thyme, is a fast-growing, tender perennial herb (Zones 6-8, annual elsewhere) prized for its intense, spicy, and earthy flavor. It has smaller, grey-green leaves, tender stems, and is more delicate than winter thyme. It prefers full sun, dry, well-drained soil, and is perfect for Mediterranean dishes.
Harden plants off and transplant outside in spring when nighttime temperatures are consistently above freezing. Easy to grow in ground or in containers.
