Our CSA community fund will allow us to provide no-cost, no-questions-asked CSA shares for those who need it in 2025. The amount of $30 increments we raise will equate to our free pickup inventory. With this funds we will update an ongoing inventory of FREE VEG BOXES for folks to checkout with for pickup at their convenience.
Some real-life examples of how community giving and mutual aid principles have allowed us to assist the community through the years:
-Weekly in-kind food donations towards the Heartside Gleaners. We are committed to providing $100-$400 worth of produce weekly to the Heartside Gleaners program. Although some of this produce is surplus that would otherwise end up as food waste in our compost piles, much of our donations consist of premium, long-storage crops. We contribute to this program regardless of our Community Fund's balance because of the Gleaners' efficacy in delivering our produce to those who need it. However, off-setting this rolling donation really helps us finance the gift!
-Filling gaps in food assistance programs: Persons who receive WIC benefits alone are limited to big-box stores and select convenience stores for their food purchasing; farmer's market produce is a non-eligible category for WIC benefits. We have used Pay-It-Forward funds to directly provide produce to WIC recipients at no cost. This gap in eligibility and state food assistance program is just one example that we know of that misses a large population of would-be-farmer's market shoppers!
