Have you ever tried Ground Cherries? We like to think of them as natural, individually wrapped candies. Related to tomatoes, even more closely related to tomatillos, ground cherries are a warm weather plant that produce lots of little fruits wrapped in a paper husk. They start out green, but as they ripen they fall to the ground and the husks turn to a golden brown while the fruit inside turns yellow. They have a unique tropical flavor with hints of pineapple, mango, and more. The fruits store well on the counter, often for weeks.
