Somewhere deep in the heart … or who knows? perhaps on the coast … of Italy, this tomato is known by another name. But, having made its way to Kent, CT by the graces of one Brian Walsh (roofer/builder extraordinaire and overall Nice Guy)—who was impressed with it during his travels in the Bel Paese—we here name it in his honor, the conspicuous void of Italian-ness be durned. Joe Mammano, marketing guy extraordinaire, and another sterling friend of the farm, got the seeds from Brian, and brought them to us to grow out (because one of Joe’s many exemplary qualities is that he makes his year’s supply of tomato sauce himself, from his own home-grown tomatoes). A couple years down the line, we can see why Brian and Joe went to the trouble! These paste tomatoes are large, round, juicy, prolific. Definitely worth a berth or two in the paste-tomato-lover’s garden.
