Tomatillo, De Milpa
Description
Physalis philadelphica (syn. P. ixocarpa) Features: -Annual -Heirloom from Mexico -Recommended to grow with a tomato cage, fence, pole, or some kind of support structure for height and branches -Recommended for outdoor growing in a container or in the ground -Comes in a biodegradable pot We grow our plants from seed, start them indoors, and move them outside to the shade to acclimate to the weather. To transplant, dig a hole a bit larger than the biodegradable pot, tear the pot in a few places, and bury the the root ball (including the pot) in the hole. You may also choose to add a bit of compost or worm castings into the hole before adding the plant. Water in thoroughly. Variety description from Truelove Seeds: "This pretty purple-blushed tomatillo is so named because it is traditionally grown in the Milpa, a cleared field where corn, beans, squash, and often many other crops are grown intercropped together in Mexico and Central America. Fruits are about 1.5” in diameter and have a slightly sharper flavor, which is preferred for some Mexican dishes."
