Description
Chestnuts: the prolific nut tree that once dominated the east coast through Appalachia. Chestnuts are a top food-producing and wildlife-attracting tree, perfect for homesteads, orchards, and habitat improvements. Bears nuts every year with nutrition profile similar to brown rice. Self-fertile, for best yields plant multiple individuals. Planting requirements: sandy, loamy, fertile, well-draining and somewhat acidic (pH4.5-6.5) soil, preferably on a slope for drainage. Chestnuts do not like wet feet. Avoid heavy clay soils. Full sun for maximum growth and production.
