The Blue & Gold Pollinator Project through Blazing Star Nursery and Farm will successfully grow, sell or give away 5000 native plants, specifically keystone species by the end of 2027. The goals of the project are to increase pollinator habitats within DC and MD, educate the community on the importance of pollinators/pollination & native plants in our environment, and to help bring more beauty to the region one native plant at a time. Why Blue & Gold? These are the colors of the plants that we are giving away through the fund (Lanceleaf coreopsis, Stiff Leaf Goldenrod, Blue Wood Aster, Woodland Sunflower, and Black-eyed Susan). The list of plants will change over time but the plants selected play host to the largest number of caterpillars & pollinator specialist bee species. By donating to the fund, it will allow Blazing Star Nursery and Farm to grow even more native plants to give away to the community to help increase the number of habitats available to the critically endangered pollinator populations. Farmers would not be able to grow 70-80% of the fruits, vegetables, nuts, native plants, or trees without the help of our smallest pollinator friends. Adding native plants to our environment should be accessible to everyone and everyone deserves to gain a little joy from the beauty that unveils itself from spring to summer to fall.
