Cardinal Flower (Lobelia cardinalis) is a striking native perennial prized for its vivid red, tubular flowers. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–9, it grows best in full sun to partial shade, with consistent moisture and protection from hot afternoon sun in warmer climates. Keep soil consistently moist or wet, especially during dry periods, and add mulch to retain moisture. Remove spent flowers to encourage blooming and cut back old stems in late fall or early spring. Cardinal Flower grows from spring through fall, flowering primarily from mid- to late summer.
