Polish White garlic is the quintessential softneck garlic — an artichoke type that always yields large, and often giant, bulbs. The beautiful light purple blushing on white-to-tan wrappers makes us wonder why it is called Polish White. This very reliable variety is similar to Corsican Red, Broadleaf Czech, Siskiyou Purple, and other artichoke types. It is consistently productive and even grows well in heavy soils. The 9-15 cloves per bulb and heavy yields make Polish White a good choice for market farms and CSAs, and the high clove count makes replanting your own seed stock very economical. Stores well for at least 10 months with a moderately hot flavor which Avram at Garlicana describes as “a fresh green flavor” that increases in heat during its first six months of storage.
