Originally from Progreso, Mexico, Ana and Crisostomo grew up farming and even after they immigrated to the US, still harbored dreams of getting back to the land. Their opportunity came when they were accepted into GrowNYC’s New Farmer Development Project, which helps immigrants with agricultural experience establish their own farms. In this program Ana trained in organic techniques like intercropping and working with beneficial insects to keep harmful bugs at bay. Their farm has since flourished to what it is now, a 17-acre sustainable farm providing for farmers markets and CSAs in New York City and New Jersey. It brings Ana and Crisostomo peace of mind knowing the farm grows using sustainable practices.
