About
The Patuxent River Farmers’ Cooperative is a collective of independent Black-owned micro farms working together to strengthen our local food system. Rooted across Southern Maryland, our farmers grow a diverse range of vegetables, fruits, herbs, and specialty products using thoughtful, sustainable practices. While each farm brings its own expertise and story, we are united by a shared commitment to quality, transparency, and community. As a cooperative comprised entirely of Black-owned farms, we are proud to carry forward a legacy of agricultural stewardship while expanding opportunities for equity, ownership, and access within our regional food system. By coming together as a cooperative, we expand access to locally grown food, support one another in production and distribution, and create a more reliable, resilient supply for our customers and partners. This includes intentionally supporting nonprofit partners working to provide fresh, nutritious food to neighbors across Washington, DC and Prince George’s County with limited access or income. Our work goes beyond farming. As stewards of the land, we recognize this land as the ancestral home of the Piscataway-Conoy Tribe and humbly accept our responsibility to care for it. We honor its sandy loam soil and steward it with intention, respecting the plants, animals, and ecosystems that reside here with us. Through this care, we are building a connected network that honors the land, supports local economies, and makes fresh, seasonal food more accessible across our region.
