Hopefully you love our salad mix, but at times you might like a large juicy lettuce leaf for a sandwich. We've found it tricky to grow heads of lettuce that live up to our standards during the summer. They often reach perfection on the wrong day, or look like they are doing great until a pest or weather event damages them, or they all mature at once and we have way too many to move. We don't plant much head lettuce, but we've had requests for romaine lettuce so we're growing a few successions of it throughout the year. Also, if some turn out to be smaller than we thought we'll throw in two.
